Presenting Squire H

For the last few months, J & H have participated in a special study at church called The Squire and the Scroll. The entire study focuses on purity. It is based upon a story of a squire who is guarding the Lantern of Purest Light. The study equips them with ways to guard their "lantern" (purity). Last night, a ceremony was held commemorating the completion of the study. The ceremony was amazing. It began with each Squire being announced and entering carrying their lantern.

The King (Bible Study leader) and helpers called each Father and son forward.

As the boys knelt in front of them, the Father gave them a verbal blessing, prayed with them and tapped them into the "Order of the Squires of the Lantern". The blessings were private as they only spoke directly to the boys. It was one of the most touching things I have experienced.

I have noticed that H seems to be walking a little taller. What a boost to have your father sit in front of you for several minutes and just pour affirmations and love into you! After the blessing they were given a bag with a gift inside, symbolizing the gift of purity given by God. There was a special pocket watch shaped like a shield complete with scripture inside, as well as a sword and shield that they made during the class.

There is a parallel study for the girls, "The Princess and the Kiss". I was able to attend the girl's ceremony on Monday and it was precious as well. I highly recommend this study! I believe the storybooks can be read to any age but the workbooks are geared toward older children. This is probably one of the most important discipleship opportunites I can think of! I pray that it stays with him forever.
