Last week I took a long overdue trip to the optometrist. I believe my last trip was in 2004, and yes, he let me know it was too long since my last check up. Thankfully, the old eyes are hanging in there and my prescription was just a tad better. I have been wanting to get new glasses for quite a while and just haven't taken the time to go. J realized that he still had some money left unused in his medical flexible savings account that we had to use or loose, so off I went to get those new specs I've been wanting.
Even though I got a pair in 2004, the actual glasses I have been wearing I got in 2002. (Long story, but one lens in the 2004 pair got milky so I just pulled out the old ones since they were the same Rx.) Before I arrived to my appointment, I knew that I wanted to update my look. My old pair were almost "invisible" partially rimless frames. I wanted my new frames to be an "accessory".
It really didn't take long for me to decide on a new pair. When I went back to pick them up later that afternoon, I took H and a friend with me. I asked them to sit in a waiting area while I retrieved my new specs. When I put them on and looked in the mirror I chuckled to myself because I knew what was coming next.
I walked out the door to the where H and his buddy were waiting and it happened.......
Explosive laughter.
and the loud exclamation "Mom, you look like.. a hippie!"
And as if that wasn't enough, in his best beauty contestant voice, and batting his eyes "I just want World Peace, ...we just need to love each other".

And. I. just. cackled.
After I got home, I remembered a picture of my mom from when I was born.
So maybe I am a hippie, but at least its my first time. Now to make an appointment for that hair do.
