King Jehoshaphat!

The past week has been super busy, but enjoyable.  Tonight our Children's Choir performed their spring musical - Fat, Fat Jehoshaphat.  Hayden had the role of King Jehoshaphat, much to his dismay.  I admit that I am a mean mom and forced him to try out.  Of course, he hasn't let me forget that I made him do this.

I know that most of his reluctance is because of his awkardness at this age.  He doesn't think it is very cool to be participating in a children's musical. Because he is so tall, he does stick out like a man among children, but the part of the King was perfect for him for that very reason. But I think that if God gives you a gift you should use it for His glory!  Hayden has the ability to take on most any character you put in front of him and he can sing as well. Over the past several weeks, we have had several dicussions on how sometimes God ask us to do things we aren't comfortable doing.  And how, by participating he is an example to the other kids. And most importantly, how someone in the audience may need to hear the message in the musical. It was a message about the power of prayer!

We went through the same attitudes last year when he was the lead in Hans Bronson. I will say that this year was better, although he still wasn't thrilled, he accepted it better.  Also, he wasn't nervous at all this year, for which I was very grateful.  He did a wonderful job, as did all the cast and choir. One day he will look back on it with different feelings I'm sure.  But for now, he is glad to say he is done with Children's Choir.  He will be moving to the Youth Department this fall.... but I have already let him know that he will be in the Youth Choir - no options!

I love him to pieces and am so proud of him.  I can't imagine getting on a stage in front of that many people...especially when I was 12.. I was extremely timid!  That is one area that he is not like me at all!
