Me and my camera, well, we are tight. I am actually in love with my camera, but please don't tell my husband, he might get jealous. I take an obscene number of pictures. When on vacation we usually take no less that 1,000 -1,500 pictures. You just never know when it might be the "perfect one". Of course I end up with a multitude of pictures that I never print or are unnecessary, but oh the pictures that I do have! I had a hard back photo book made of our pictures from our DC trip a few years back. That is a treasure to us with details and historical information we encountered. And I've got enough pictures of M-i-c-k-e-y Mouse and friends to fill every gift shop on the WDW Resort.
My camera accompanies me to sporting events, birthday parties, family outings, etc. Very rarely do I get caught without it. Video is a different story. We are terrible about capturing moments on video, partly because we haven't had a small camcorder for years. Oh we have the mac daddy professional video camera, but who wants to pull that out for everyday use? So other than musical performances, we have nothing. I wanted to purchase a small camcorder to have when we get our adoption placement. We will have so much to capture I'm sure. So a couple of months ago we bought one. We have been trying it out and I have recorded every one of H's football games. I realized quickly that I must carry the tripod because it was impossible to hold the camera for the duration of the game. So each week, I have lugged the camera bag complete with video and digital SLR camera as well as a heavy tripod, up to the top of the bleachers. I set it all up and try to follow the action. In doing so, I have no idea what is actually going on in the game, I just make sure I follow up and down the field.
So this past week, partly because I was rushed, and partly just because I was lazy, I left all cameras and equipment at home. I was going to enjoy the game. Well I did just that and before I knew it they passed the ball off to H and I watched him take off to a corner and run it all the way back, around 80-90 yards, for a touchdown! And of course, all without a camera! It never fails does it? Part of me is glad I didn't have it because I got to enjoy the moment. In case you are wondering, why yes, I was the mom jumping up and down yelling "GO BABY GO!" On the other hand, I am kicking myself for not having that moment caught on tape. I guess it will just have to be forever etched in our memory.
And just so you know, H actually scored all the points on the board that night. He was on cloud nine! Everyone was cheering for him after the game. We won 12-6, but I missed the first TD because I turned to listen to something that J's dad was saying to me. Just after the play, I look down to the sidelines and J, who is an assistant coach is waving his hands in the air and yelling "If you would pay attention you might see what is happening!" UGH! I am such a bad mother huh? No camera, not watching the game.... please don't report me!
