All about Bubba

I will warn you.. there is some boasting involved.  Kelly is hosting  Show Us Your Life - Moms of Teenagers and how can I not join in?

For those of you new to my blog, meet "Bubba"....

Bubba is 14 and will be entering his freshmen year of high school in the fall which excites him. He also reminds me frequently that in 6 months he will earn his driving permit. Currently, he stands at nearly 6'2".

Bubba's personality is bigger than life itself.  Making someone laugh is the ultimate for him.  And he is naturally funny.

He is not timid or shy as his dad and I were.  I quite frequently say I could drop him off anywhere by himself and he would be fine and would most likely have a friend within the hour.

Bubba is a sports fanatic and while he has played a variety of sports, baseball is his passion.  And though he still has lots of developing to do, he has found his place on the pitcher's mound on his school's JV baseball team as well as the city league team.

In addition to being athletic, Bubba's pretty smart too.  From an early age, his intelligence was evident and he has always maintained good grades.  And that's not all, he has musical abilities as well.

He took piano lessons for 4 years and just this past year picked up the acoustic and bass guitar as well as the djembe (African drum). Bubba has been a part of our church youth praise band for the past year and will also be a member of his school's worship team next year.

But more important than all his accolades and accomplishments, is his heart.  This teen brings me joy everyday.  Yes, I said teenager and joy in the same sentence.  Most days I just want to shout from the mountain top and express just how blessed I am.  I enjoy him.  We frequently have long, deep conversations.  I am so grateful that he is open and wants to communicate with us.  He loves the Lord with all his heart and so desires to seek His will.  Now, in no way is he perfect.  We have our moments, but I'm telling you this kid is amazing.  We are seeing his maturity grow daily.

His awards day ceremony was held last week.  He received several awards, but my proudest moment came when he was name "Best Christian Attitude" for his JV Baseball team.  If you have spent much time around sports you know that attitudes quite frequently flair in a negative way. To me this was way better than any academic or MVP award he could ever receive. My prayer is that he honors Christ in all he does.

There is one more small thing that defines "Bubba".  The one thing that entitles him to that name...

He is a wonderful BIG brother!

Even after being an only child for 13 years, he has never once been jealous of Pumpkin. His love for her is unmeasurable.  From day one, he has been very protective.  And she is crazy about him as well. In fact, he really wants us to adopt again.  His heart breaks when he thinks of orphans.

I am blessed beyond measure by Bubba, not something I take lightly.  I thank God for him everyday and pray that he would continue to seek Him with all his heart.
