In late June we got a phone call from Bubba's varsity team coach with an opportunity to play in a nationally recognized tournament in south Florida. To be honest, I wasn't overly thrilled at the thought of an 8 hour road trip to sit in the hot sun and watch baseball. But then J explained to me more about the organization he would be playing for, a Christian organization lead by former MLB players. Then he went on to tell me how this particular tournament is scouted by college and pros. Ok, you got my attention. Now we have no expectation other than it could possibly be some good connections down the road and just a great experience in general.
It was hot as blue blazes but fun still. Pumpkin held up rather well considering. The ride was not so fun for her, but we made it.
This tournament was huge with about 44 teams total participating so we played at several different facilities. But the best park we played at was City of Palms park which is the Red Sox old training facility. It was so neat to be in a real stadium! And what a treat to play on that field. Unfortunately, Bubba didn't go in at all during this game, but he did get to warm up on it.
We spent July 4th playing in one game and then the rest of the day was spent on the long trip home. It was definitely different not being at home celebrating with family and friends.
On July 5th, Bubba's city league team began to compete in the district all star tournament about an hour north of home. So for several days the team travelled every day back and forth. It made for some long nights and in the end they won the tournament which advanced them to the state level.
In the middle of the tournament, my mom and I made a side road trip to the Atlanta area to launch my friend Kim as a Rodan + Fields consultant. I have to admit I was absolutely exhausted on this trip and I think it shows. But we had so much fun and she had a very successful night. I am really enjoying my new business!!
Bubba then spent the next week at camp with some of our youth group. It was an intense week of training in discipleship and evangelism. He has been looking forward to it for quite some time and really enjoyed his week of living in a dorm on a college campus. Can't believe in 4 short years we will be sending him off for real!
Well there is way more to be told, more miles to be travelled, but for now that's all. The rest will come soon I promise!
